Jens Ulltveit-Moe, 75, founder and owner of Umoe, established 1984. Umoe, a Norwegian industrial group with 5.000 employees, is engaged in renewable energy and services. Umoe Bioenergy produces ethanol from sugar cane in Brazil, REC Silicon, where Umoe is main shareholder, produces polysilicon in United States and China, and Fornebu Lumber Company has logging and a sawmill in Canada. Umoe Restaurant Group, owns 200 and operates 400 restaurants in Scandinavia. In addition Umoe Mandal, shipyard, and Sønnico, electrical service business. Umoe was developed within the Norwegian oil boom from 1984-2004, when the oil services industries, tankers and seismic activities were sold for subsequent investment in renewable energy. Mr Ulltveit-Moe is chairman of Cicero, University of Oslo’s Institute for research, leader for Norway 203040, an association of the leading Norwegian industries interested in active combating climate change, and a former president of NHO, Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise, and Norwegian Shipowners’ Association.
