– 68 174 people visited ONS 2018. I am pleased with the number of relevant people visiting Stavanger this year. Our ambition with ONS 2018 was to be an arena for discussions on energy, environmental issues, security and technology, and to facilitate collaboration across industries and academic disciplines. With that, I think we have succeeded and I hope we are one step closer in finding more sustainable solutions for the future, says President and CEO Leif Johan Sevland.
Lord Cullen receives ONS 2018 Special Innovation Award
Congratulations to the Right Honourable Lord Cullen of Whitekirk for winning the ONS Special Innovation Award for his life long efforts for safety. The award was presented to Lord Cullen by Norway’s Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Terje Søviknes at the Innovation Awards Ceremony, Tuesday 28 August.

Innovation Awards finalists 2018: Baker Hughes and Sekal
Baker Hughes, a GE Company and Sekal are the two last companies to be nominated for the ONS 2018 Innovation Awards. We congratulate Baker Hughes with their second nomination, this time for “Digital Inventory”, a new service model for oil and gas site maintenance. Sekal is nominated in the “small and medium enterprises” (SME) category for “DrillTronics” automation software, connecting a well digital twin into the drilling machinery.

Innovation Awards finalists 2018: NOV and Typhonix
National Oilwell Varco (NOV) and Typhonix have been appointed finalists for the ONS 2018 Innovation Awards. NOV has developed the industry’s only reflexive drilling system “NOVOS”, that automates repetitive drilling activities. Typhonix is nominated in the “small and medium enterprises” (SME) category for “Typhoon Valve System”, an innovative low shear valve technology. The two last finalists will be announced next week.

Solution Seeker – an NTNU technology spin-off company – is nominated in the “small and medium enterprises” (SME) category for “ProductionCompass AI”, the world’s first artificial intelligence for upstream oil & gas production optimization. In a time when the intelligence community’s work is as vital as ever, the former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the National Security Agency (NSA), General Michael Hayden has released a new book that highlights developments putting the American intelligence community at risk. At ONS 2018, Mr. Hayden will address the delicate balance between liberty and security in intelligence work, as well as the potential benefits and dangers associated with the cyber domain.

Baker Hughes is nominated for the technology “TerrAdapt Adaptive Drill Bit” – the first and only smart bit that can adjust depth-of-cut control (DOCC) downhole, in real time, to optimize efficiency. ISPAS is nominated in the “small and medium enterprises” (SME) category, for their advanced oil-spill radar “New Generation OSD Radar”. More finalists will be announced soon.
