John Knight worked at Statoil, now Equinor, a Norwegian energy company for 16 years from 2002 to May 2018. His first assignment was on the management committee of Statoil’s international division as SVP for non-operated assets around the world and also responsible for portfolio management and M and A internationally. During John’s period in the international division the production outside Norway grew from about 50,000 boepd to the current 800,000 boepd. In 2011 John joined the Executive Committee of Statoil as EVP responsible for strategy and business development including climate policy, geopolitical analysis, corporate M and A and execution support of exploration portfolio development. He has also served as the Statoil country manager for the UK from 2011-2018. In May 2018 John left the Executive Committee and is currently on gardening leave. He will join Hitec Vision , a private equity firm focused on oil and gas exploration and production, as a partner in August 2018. He has also been asked to establish a Beijing Energy Club branch in Europe. He is a member of the Advisory Boards of Columbia Global Energy Center, Lloyds Register and CTF Group as well as Chairman of the ONS 2016 and 2018 Conferences in Norway. John was educated in law at Emmanuel College Cambridge 1977- 1980, The Inns of Court School of Law in London 1980-1981. Before Statoil he worked as a lawyer in private practice, at Shell International, 1981-1987 and in investment banking in M and A at Chase, UBS and Salomon 1987- 2002, where in each case he was head of EMEA Energy Investment banking.
