ONS Summit in cooperation with Munich Security Conference (MSC)
The Munich Security Conference (MSC) Foundation and the ONS Foundation, two of the most prominent institutions in their respective fields, are partnering for a high-level debate on critical energy security challenges, uncertainties in the energy markets and the current geopolitics of energy.
Supported by the Norwegian Government, MSC and ONS will organize, as part of the MSC Energy Security Series, the “ONS Summit”, a joint high-level meeting on energy security and security of supply in Stavanger on 28 and 29 August 2016, immediately preceding this year’s ONS Conference and Exhibition.
Co-chaired by ONS President and CEO Leif Johan Sevland and MSC Chairman Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger about 60 key leaders from the energy industry, politics and the security community will meet for off-the-record discussions on global energy trends, their geopolitical and industrial implications, and the challenges they pose to companies and states.
Daniel Yergin, Vice Chairman of IHS, one of the world’s leading energy experts, will moderate the event. Among the meeting’s confirmed participants are the CEOs of major industry leaders, such as Statoil, Shell, ConocoPhillips, Eon and Wintershall as well as senior representatives from Saudi Aramco, eni, and Iran’s National Oil Company. Furthermore, Norway’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Børge Brende, and Norway`s Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Tord Lien, will represent the Norwegian government, and cabinet ministers from around the world have confirmed their attendance.
“The intersection of energy and security is becoming ever more important. How do low oil prices impact the stability of countries? How are European diversification efforts coming along, and what should next steps look like? What major challenges are companies facing in the current environment? These are questions of enormous importance for both the energy sector and the security community. This is why I very much look forward to discussing these and other critical issues at our joint MSC-ONS meeting.” (Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger)
“We are delighted to team up with Munich Security Conference for this year’s ONS Summit. The MSC brings an extensive knowledge and network on security policy to the table, and in combination with the ONS` comprehensive energy network the scene is set for fruitful discussions. Predictable terms and conditions, and stable investment climates is crucial for the energy industry. By bringing industry and political leaders together, we aim to add knowledge and dialogue on these increasingly important issues for the industry.” (Leif Johan Sevland)
