Opening Concert Artists
Susanne Sundfør will be the main attraction at this year's ONS opening concert. She will be accompanied on stage by the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. Other performers include Katzenjammer and Polkabjørn & Kleine Heine.
A galaxy of young and very talented performers will appear at this year’s ONS opening concert on 24 August at Stavanger Concert Hall, including Susanne Sundfør, Katzenjammer, Polkabjørn & Kleine Heine, Charlie Siem, together with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra.
Susanne Sundfør, rock and folk musician
Twenty-four year old Susanne Sundfør made an impressive breakthrough at Oslo’s Bylarm Festival in 2006, and is regarded by many as a unique musical talent.
Her album “The Brothel” released in March this year was received with unanimous praise. Critics and music lovers alike dusted off all their superlative clichés describing Susanne as “shockingly good”, “magnificent”, “ground-breaking” and ”epic”.
The Stavanger Symphony Orchestra
Tradition has it that the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra will also appear at our opening concert.
The orchestra has gained an international reputation for its quality, fascinating profile and creative programming, combining a commitment to early and contemporary music, and unusual cross-over projects which have all contributed to its development and reputation. The orchestra has been in the forefront of renewing the visions, goals, and image of symphonic orchestras for the 21st century.
The orchestra will accompany the other performers during the opening concert.
Polkabjørn & Kleine Heine
This is probably the only band in the world that has yodelled and performed at one and the same time for the King and Queen of Norway and the Foreign Minister. This was during the opening of the Bergen “Festspillene” in 2008. They say it is impossible to get into the right frame of mind for this duo.
Katzenjammer
The four girl band Katzenjammer have risen fast to become far and away one of Norway's best live acts. During the last six months, Katzenjammer has completed three major tours to Central Europe and the girls have played in front of riotous audiences at sold-out club venues in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Denmark.
Charlie Siem
Charlie Siem is a young British violinist whose easy style belies a virtuosity that has already catapulted him onto the international stage. This fast rising star has performed variously at the Carnegie Hall in New York City, onstage in Cuba with the Royal Ballet, onstage with Bryan Adams, with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. Charlie Siem will release a new CD in 2010.
Together with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, these stupendous performers will entertain you with a concert you won’t forget in a hurry!
