Arctic Energy is the theme of this year’s Barents Sea Expo and Conference, which will be held in Hammerfest on 20 – 21 April.

An important meeting place

According to Trond Baardsen, managing director of the Barents Sea Conference, this event is the most relevant forum for debating oil and gas activities in the Arctic regions.

He adds that there will be opportunities to influence Norwegian oil and gas strategies.

“In connection with the conference, Norwegian Petroleum and Energy Minister Terje Riis-Johansen will convene a consultative meeting during which the energy sector will have the opportunity to make their views known about the coming Petroleum White Paper”, says Baardsen.

Discussions about the Norwegian industry’s focus on the Arctic

”ONS is a partner in the Barents Sea Conference Foundation. In many ways we represent a northern extension of ONS – providing the opportunity for both the industry and politicians to discuss and shape current Norwegian industry focus on the Arctic.” says Baardsen.
Baardsen expects about 400 visitors to Hammerfest in April. This makes the Barents Sea Conference the largest of its kind in northern Norway.

“ONS is one of the founders of the Barents Sea Conference, which has developed into an important meeting place for all those interested in the development of the oil and gas sector throughout the Arctic region. And we are proud to be working together with such an attractive host municipality as Hammerfest”, says Kjell Ursin-Smith.

Naturally, a conference in the Arctic will kick-off with an ice-breaker! – on Monday 19 April.
